During the construction of the new Parking Structure (see timeline below), Wells Park will be used as the primary temporary parking lot. This area can accommodate 100 stalls and still leave room for one of the practice fields to stay in service and remain useable for Iao School. The County is also in discussion with various private property owners interested in making parking available to employees or customers for a fee. War Memorial will be repaved starting in January 2020 so alternative locations for shuttles to originate are being reviewed.
Free shuttle transportation will be offered to/from temporary parking locations with various stops in Wailuku Town. The County is currently reviewing shuttle routes and scheduling. They are also in discussion with employers to reduce the impact on shuttle transportation such as staggered starting times for workers. The County’s goal is to have the temporary parking and shuttle schedules finalized by the end of 2019.
The new parking structure will take the place of the aging Wailuku Municipal Parking lot which has been at capacity for years with 214 stalls. When completed, the new 4-story parking Structure will offer 428 stalls, doubling the capacity of the current municipal lot.
